Twilight in the Windy City

Once again (a double feature of sorts) featuring guest writer, Jude Walter Mire. Catch him at the Red Lion next Monday night!
Chicago,
like most places, has its share of haunted history. Spectral
leftovers from the fire that burned the city to the ground, or the
old victims of America's first serial killer, H.H.Holmes, and the
scores who wore concrete shoes in lake Michigan thanks to local
gangsters. One of the nicest places to enjoy a good haunting,
and a good drink while you do so, is the
Red Lion Pub.
Not only is the pub known for its ghostly visitations, it has also
been inhabited by horror writers for almost a decade and a half.
Twilight Tales is a Bram Stoker award nominated weekly reading series held in the cozy upstairs room of this historically haunted pub in Lincoln Park. Responding to a lack of excellent genre fiction readings, the group was founded by writer, and editor, Tina Jens back in 1993. Since that time thousands of authors have perched on rickety barstools and read their work on Monday nights, entertaining audiences and pub spirits alike.
On Monday October 1st Twilight Tales will mark two significant events with one big party. The first is yet another Anniversary Celebration! Horror stories have been alive (undead?) and kicking for fourteen straight years in the windy city! This will also be particularly significant in that it will be the last night in the old Red Lion Pub. The building, like most good creepy haunts for ghosts, is in dire need of repair. It will be torn down and replaced with a new Red Lion Pub in the upcoming year. The owners have checked with the spirits, and the Twilight Tales crew, and they don't seem to mind. So if you're in the Chicago area and would like to drink a toast to send off one of the most beloved haunted establishments in the world, and mingle with horror writers while going about it, stop by!
Once the farewells are said, Twilight Tales will be moving to their new home for the next year; Mix: The Lincoln Park Lounge. It's not haunted (yet), but there's a big stage to read from, a bar in the back with dollar bottles on Monday, and, as always, spine tingling stories will abound.
See you there!
